The Story Behind The Book

Tim, Chase and I have been taking family vacations every April since Chase was 18 months old. We always try to find a new place to visit each year. Once we figure out what our destination, I do research, collect resources and try to find interesting things we might like to do. The year that we visited St. John, US Virgin Islands, I came across a book titled Feet, Fins & Four Wheel Drive which ended up being one of the best vacation resources we have ever purchased. Written by a local resident, it was like having a tour guide with us at all times. Directions were specific and descriptions were complete. The great time that we had on the island was largely due to the fact that we found many "out of the way" places and things to do that we probably would never had found had we not purchased the book. On the way home, Tim and I were talking about how much we used the book and how it would have been nice to have one similarly written for all the places we had visited. Then our conversation turned to our home, which happens to be a great vacation destination. We talked about how it would be great to have a resource like this available for visitors to the Boothbay Harbor area. And then I thought, who better to write it than a native of the area who has lived here for 45 years. With some encouragement from family and friends, I was off researching and writing in my spare moments. It took about 3 years to complete. The information included in this book is the information I would give to friends and family coming for a visit. My hope is that anyone who has a chance to use it finds new and interesting experiences that totally "make their vacation in one of the most beautiful spots along the Maine coast.
